The Meaning of Samhain
Copyright by Linda E. Savage, Ph.D.

The Intention of Nov. 2
The time period, between Oct. 31st and Nov. 2nd is one of the most widely celebrated ancient traditions. Samhain means “summer’s end” in the Celtic tradition. The harvest is complete and the land will lie fallow for the winter months with the seeds of new life deep underground. Cultures worldwide have recognized this as a time to honor ancestors and loved ones who have passed on to the other side. The ancient cultures understood death as a natural part of the cycle of birth, death and rebirth and embraced the lessons of death as a part of life. It was not feared in the same way that it is now, but respected as all great mysteries must be. They knew that after the grain is harvested, the seeds will rise again in the early spring to bring new life.
The ancient cultures often buried their loved ones in caves or barrows and they believed these caves represented a return to the womb of the Mother. During this period of time the people gathered at the burial sites to feel closer to these beloved and respected elders. The gatherings at the great barrows or at gravesites and cemeteries, was and still is a time of honoring and connecting to important sources of wisdom and love. In South America, Nov. 2nd is celebrated as the Day of the Dead.
Another tradition is the belief that the veil between the seen and unseen worlds is the thinnest at this time. The idea of foretelling the future for the living must have arisen from these great night vigils, when people looked to loved and trusted ancestors for advice in the coming year, wisdom they also sought from the grandmothers and grandfathers of their societies. Those who had passed to the other side were believed to have an even greater knowledge than those who were living and therefore the best source of advice.
Psychologically, we might say that these ancestor guides know us well and they understand our hopes and dreams. They are the wise ones who see our chosen path and who we are in our souls. The ancestor guides show us that, ultimately, our fate is written by ourselves. At Saimhain we see the truth: what the future will bring is based on the thoughts and actions we pursue now. The wise ones function very much like the archetype of the good psychotherapist who holds up a mirror for us to look into deeply.
Today, the questions we might look at are:
How can I honor the death passages in my own life?
Are we who we claim to be or are we violating some aspect of our soul’s
deepest truths?
How can we align with our soul purpose through our actions?
What must we face within ourselves to bring about this alignment?
What intentions can we set this year towards fulfilling our highest destiny?

Cosmic Yoni Dance
Copyright by Dr. Tonya K. Freeman - Metaphysician - Motivator

“We are the ones we have been waiting for.” Hopi Elder
The Cosmic Dance of the Yoni is about to begin. Known as The Harmonic Concordance, this event is most significant in progressing the human race to a new paradigm. It is said that we will no longer be dealing in a three dimensional world but instead we will have the ability to tune into the fifth dimensional world. This is something that many of us have been looking forward to and preparing for a long time.
As the Divine Womb covers us with Her loving presence we are asked to take time to commune with the All That Is and become One with All Things.
On November 8, and 9th the planets will be lined up…three water signs, three earth signs, all representing the Femi9 Energy. These planets will form a Hex Alpha or hexagon, also known as the Star of David. Top that off with the energy of a Lunar Eclipse and you have quite an event happening. . As above, so below is the order of the day. Imagine creating miracles.
Every woman, man and child shall be lifted up in a Divine Consciousness, whether they are aware of what will be taking place in the yoni-verse or not. We give thanks..
One of my sources states that the sign rising at that time will be Cancer and the Eastern region will be most affected. He further states, “during the time of a LUNAR eclipse (Cancer is ruled by the Moon), and you have a time where the Goddess will literally be walking the Earth.”
Clarity is needed for all during this time, in order to manifest exactly what it is we yearn for. Take heed of your thoughts, not only then but also now, leading up to this most auspicious event.
The Goddess Energy has been afoot for awhile now, and it is my belief that She was preparing us for this time. We have been studying ourselves more. Learning that what we had been taught to believe was not what we needed to know. We have gained much insight into the alternative healing modalities. We have shown more concern for the earth. We are reclaiming the ways of our Ancestral Mothers and loving every nuance of it. We shall not disappoint Her, for if we do, we disappoint ourselves.
As we know, the Femi9 Energy is very sensitive, intuitive and feeling, so some may face the challenge of being overly sensitive but if you are aware of what is transpiring, then it will make the experience more profound and easier to embrace.
For those SiStars who will be on their moon cycle, it is time for you to go to the Great Mother Earth and sit upon Her , either directly, weather permitting or on a blanket. It is time to give Mother the gift of life as She has given you. Water your plants with your Sacred Blood. Water a tree if you have no plants. Give thanks for Being in the Flow of the Divine Femi9 Energy.
This is a time to be very mindful of your thoughts. This is not a time for emotional outbursts but a time to revel in the peace that surpasses all understanding.
Prepare yourself. Cleanse, purify, meditate, breathe. Be at one with the energy of love as much as possible. Feel the power. Embrace the Divine Femi9 and know that you are co creator with your Divine Self and you have been given the ability to create miracles, not only in your own life but in the world as well.
Some of you may want to perform Sexual Magic Rituals during this time to bring about a healing love. Others will drum or dance, chant or pray. Still some will choose to be in a silent meditation. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing on that day at that time, will be where you are ‘scheduled’ to be, doing what you were guided to do from the very beginning.
Be mindful that what you do from here on out, all that you say, think and feel, is very important to our spiritual evolution as humans living upon this terra cotta called Gaia. We make the world better, one person at a time.
In heeding the call of the Divine Femi9 , by the time the Solar Eclipse comes, which will be two weeks later on November 23rd we shall surely be encouraged to continue on our path to enlightenment. We shall continue to evolve at a pace that we can only imagine. Remember the Matrix movies for they tell the tale of thinking outside of the box, so to speak and tapping into that energy deep within with no fear.
There is so much spiritual work that will be going on during this time by healers and light workers, that we will have no choice but to see a new consciousness abound. It is time for us to know what we can do and be all that we can be and then some.
What makes this time extra special for me, is that I have a birthday on November 10th. Talk about a birthday gift! I shall bask in the energy of Mi Madre Negra and love every breeze that blows upon my cheeks.
Be blessed. Be whole. Be healed

Menopausal Years the Wise Woman WayCopyright by Susun Weed

Menopause, like puberty, is a period of transition and metamorphosis. It consists of three stages: isolation, melt down, and emergence. Each stage calls forth new energies and new perceptions of ourselves. Each stage has different demands, different tasks, and different needs.
Wise Woman ways, such as simple ceremony, compassionate self-care, and daily use of dooryard plants, can benefit women going through menopause tremendously. Please allow me to share with you some of my favorite herbs for easing hot flashes, sleeplessness, and other distresses of The Change. They're easy to find; you may already know them as weeds! These plants, and their cautions and contraindications, are described in detail in my book Menopausal Years, The Wise Woman Way. Please refer to it before you decide whether or not to use any of these green allies to aid you during your menopausal years.
Calcium intake during and after menopause must be high to maintain health. But calcium in pills can't compare to calcium in plants when it comes to maintaining healthy, flexible bones. Bones are made of a dozen minerals besides calcium (potassium, manganese, magnesium, silica, iron, zinc, selenium, boron, phosphorus, sulphur, and chromium), all of which are found in rich supply in the roots and leaves of edible weeds and herbs. Eating weeds is my preferred way of preventing osteoporosis and ensuring freedom from heart disease, depression, headaches, leg cramps, and joint pain.
There are scores of calcium/mineral-rich plants to choose from, such as the aromatic leaves of sage, peppermint, lemon balm, bergamot, rosemary, and thyme; the cooked or fresh greens of lamb's quarters, amaranth, dandelion, chicory, comfrey, stinging nettle, chickweed, parsley, watercress, kale, collards, and cabbage; the flowers of red clover; and the roots of yellow dock, dandelion, chicory, and burdock.
For maximum extraction of mineral richness, I cook with these herbs, drink them as infusions, and steep them in vinegar. (See Old Sour Puss Mineral Mix in my book, page 192, for recipe.)
Seaweeds have incredibly generous amounts of calcium and minerals too. I make it a practice to eat seaweeds such as kelp, dulse, and nori daily, as condiments, and seaweed such as wakame, hijiki, arame, and kombu once a week, cooked with carrots or in a soup. I feed seaweed to my goats in the form of powdered kelp and to my plants in the form of a liquid emulsion. That's why we all have shiny hair, sleek skin, bright eyes, and lots of energy.
Hormones are a hot topic for menopausal women. To help myself with hormonal surges and drops, I prefer to use tinctures of plants rich in plant hormones (phytosterols) rather than prescribed hormones (estrogen replacement or hormone replacement), which actually elevate the risk of heart disease and osteoporosis, contrary to advertising, and are linked to increases in breast and uterine cancers. Women whose blood is rich in plant hormones have the lowest rates of cancer in the world. Plants rich in phytosterols include roots of dong quai, ginseng, wild yam, black cohosh, black haw, dandelion; flowers of hops, yarrow, red clover; leaves of stinging nettle, sage; berries/seeds/hips of chaste tree/vitex, fenugreek, roses.
Favorite herbs for menopausal women include the following:
Oatstraw infusion (Avena sativa) strengthens the nerves, helps reduce emotional distress, promotes sound sleep, keeps the bones and heart strong, and strengthens libido. The tincture is a stronger sedative but not nourishing to the bones and heart. Oats for breakfast is an excellent way to "take" this herb, but avoid pills and capsules. Oatstraw baths are exceptionally calming. Instructions for making one are in my green book: Healing Wise.
Nettle infusion (Urtica dioica) strengthens the adrenals, eases anxiety, increases energy, helps prevent night sweats, builds blood, and protects bones and heart. Eating cooked nettle is another excellent way to gather its benefits, as is nettle vinegar. I avoid freeze-dried, encapsulated, or tinctured nettle, believing all these forms ineffective and over-priced.
Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) - tincture of the fresh flowering tops - is a favorite with menopausal women, their daughters and their mothers. A few drops (up to 25 at a time) will calm emotions, relieve heart palpitations (and strengthen the heart), reduce the severity of hot flashes, increase vaginal lubrication, moderate and eliminate PMS and menstrual cramping. Motherwort vinegar is a fantastic tonic, and tasty - thank goodness. The tea is violently bitter and disliked by 99 out of 100 women, including me - yuck!
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) - any part, in any form - is a superb strengthener for the liver, the control center for hot flashes. Dandelion improves digestion, especially of calcium, helps relieve headaches, and sees to it that the liver provides steady blood sugar supplies. Dandelion wine (from the blossoms) is the most elegant way to take this remedy, but the cooked leaves and vinegars (as well as the pickled parts) of the roots and/or leaves are also excellent nourishing digestives. The tincture, especially of the root, is considered the strongest medicine, but doesn't contain bone-building nutrients, so is less ideal than the other forms.
Here are some startling facts about menopause:
The Grandmother Hypothesis maintains that "menopause, like a big brain and an upright posture, is one of the essential traits of the human which allowed us to colonize the world."
Menopause is not a recent phenomenon, but an ancient women's mystery, with special gifts for the woman who uses its energies wisely.
Estrogen is not one hormone, but many, and our bodies continue to make estrogens all of our lives. The adrenals, the fat tissues, and perhaps the uterus make estrogens.
The levels of hormones in a woman's blood are never higher than when she is in menopause.
Herbal hormone (phytosterols or phytoestrogens) are usable by the body and, in contrast to prescribed hormones, protect against breast cancer.
